How do I enable two-factor authentication for logging into Upthere?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) enhances the security of your Upthere account. When you log into the Upthere Home apps or the Upthere web app at https://app.upthere.com, you enter your email address & password as usual and you enter an additional 2FA code. To get these 2FA codes, you can add your mobile phone number (USA-based phones only) and we'll send you codes via SMS text message. As an alternative, you can use a third-party app such as Authy or Google Authenticator on a mobile phone or desktop PC to generate 2FA codes.
To enable 2FA for your Upthere account, follow these steps:
Log into the Upthere web app at https://app.upthere.com using your email address & password
Click or tap on your user name in the upper right corner and click or tap "Account"
Scroll to the bottom of the page — on the right side of the page, click or tap "Turn on two-factor authentication"
Choose how you'd like to generate 2FA codes by selecting one of these 2 options:
Enter your mobile phone number and click or tap "Next" to continue:
We'll send you a 6-digit code to your mobile phone via SMS text message — enter that code and click or tap "Confirm" to enable 2FA:
Note: We recommend enabling the checkbox "Allow Upthere Support to help me recover my account if I lose my backup code". If you uncheck this box, you will be permanently locked out of your Upthere account if you happen to lose your phone number and your backup code. Upthere Support will be unable to assist you, and your account will be inaccessible until you locate one of your codes.
Congratulations, you've successfully enabled two-factor authentication! Save your 2FA backup code so you can log in even if you lose your mobile phone or can't generate 2FA codes:
